I study how people connect with and make sense of one another. My research focuses on the social regulation of emotion, how people interpret and respond to ambiguous social situations, and the conditions that promote or prevent social connection, belonging, and prosocial action. I examine these topics across multiple levels ranging from the intrapersonal and interpersonal to the group, institutional, and societal.

I earned my PhD in Social and Personality Psychology from Cornell University, and my BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley.
